TESTICULAR SELF EXAMINATION
- Stand in front of a mirror.
- Look for any swelling on the skin of the scrotum.
- Examine each testicle with both hands.
- Place the index and middle fingers under the
testicle while the thumbs are placed on the top.
- Gently roll the testicle between the thumbs and fingers.
It is normal for one testicle to be slightly larger than the other. A
small, firm area near the rear of the testicle is a normal part of the
testicle. The cord leading upward for the topof the testicle (epididymis) is a
normal part of the scrotum.
If you find a lump, contact your physician as soon as possible.
Cancerous lumps usually are found on the sides of the testicle but can also show
up on the front. According to the National Cancer Institute, regular TSE is an
important health habit, but it can’t substitute for a doctor’s examination. Your
doctor should check your testicles when you have a physical exam. |
